Modern European History Lecture

Welcome to The History Guide’s Lectures on Early Modern European History. These lectures were written over the past ten years and served as the basis for my upper division European intellectual history and western civilization classes at Florida Atlantic University (Boca Raton and Davie, FL) and Meredith College (Raleigh, NC).

I don’t read the material for the courses, or purchase the books, though I’m going to read Merriman’s single volume history of modern Europe this summer. Still, listening to these guys have helped me.

Modern history, the modern period or the modern era, is the linear, global, historiographical approach to the time frame after post-classical history. Modern history can be further broken down into periods: The early modern period began approximately in the early 16th century; notable historical milestones included the European Renaissance, the Age of Discovery, and the Protestant Reformation.
